One of the LTA’s key strategies is to find new ways to grow participation, and padel is an innovative format of tennis that is fun, flexible, and easy to play.
Growing a sport from scratch in a country that loves its mainstream sports is a challenging task. That is why we have created a padel development plan. This development plan has identified six growth enablers – the essential ingredients that collectively will ensure the sport is able to scale up over the coming years.

Venue safeguarding standards
As the governing body of tennis in Britain, it is the LTA’s duty to promote the safety of all those who play, volunteer and support tennis in this country. The LTA is therefore committed to supporting and enabling LTA registered venues to ensure that safeguarding standards are upheld.

Coach Safeguarding Standards
From 2024, all active padel coaches who lead padel activity must be LTA Accredited, which is in line with the standards set in tennis. To join Coach Accreditation, you need to hold a recognised Padel Qualification, alongside recently acquired and valid first aid training, safeguarding training and a DBS/PVG.
Choosing the right course
An LTA recognised Padel Qualification is the LTA Padel Instructor (Level 2), or a non-LTA Qualification that has been reviewed by the LTA and is deemed to have met a required standard.
Any coach wishing to have a non-LTA Qualification reviewed, can submit their certificate to the LTA via the online form on this page:
Our Venue Support Toolkit will provide you with the information, resources and support you need to manage, develop, and grow your venue or club for tennis or padel, and get more people playing.
The toolkit contains guidance and tools to help you grow and retain your membership and player base, market your venue effectively and develop a thriving padel facility.
The LTA Quick Access Loan Scheme provides interest-free loans to help venues deliver projects that will grow the number of people playing tennis and padel. The scheme is a part of the LTA’s mission to grow padel by making it accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable to all.
To attract new players within local communities it is critical that there's access to quality all year-round facilities and therefore the LTA will be prioritising the installation and construction of covered courts.
If you are thinking about hosting your own padel tournament, please see details on how to do this in our competition guide below:
