Workforce
People make our sport – in particularly our incredible workforce of Coaches, Officials, Volunteers and Activators.
It’s thanks to their hard work and dedication that the game continues to grow and nothing we do would be possible without them.
That’s why we’re committed to supporting our workforce through every stage of their role, from industry-leading training and qualifications to continuous development and exclusive benefits – find out more below.
Coaches are at the very heart of tennis in Britain. They are often responsible for the very first experience people have when they step on court and play a vital role in growing our sport.
We’re here to support coaches across every stage of their career and development, giving them the support, resources and guidance to become the best coach they can. Our strategy – developed with thousands of coaches, employers and deployers of coaches, venues, coach educators and key sporting bodies – lays out the biggest transformation in coach education and development in three key areas:
- Qualifications
- Continuous Professional Development
- Ongoing Coach Support
We have developed a comprehensive coaching qualification pathway for aspiring tennis and padel coaches – suitable for people looking to become anything from a Coaching Assistant to a Master Coach. Delivered at Coach Development Centres across the country, each qualification involves expert tuition from our LTA coaches to support them in reaching their goals.
LTA Coach Accreditation is the professional membership scheme we offer to coaches in Great Britain – providing them with world-class resources, exclusive benefits and ongoing support for them and their business.
For coaches looking to take the step into the professional game, our Performance Coach and Development Team provide education, guidance and support for performance coaches, with the aim of building a continual supply of world class coaches at every stage of the performance pathway.
Tennis Activators play a vital role in helping us take our sport to people and places it has never been before. These individuals are currently helping to deliver our LTA SERVES (our programme helping children from underserved communities benefit from tennis), LTA Youth Go! (our community-based programme offering kids aged 4-18 an introduction into tennis) and our Barclays Free Park Tennis programmes across communities in Great Britain.
We help Activators in community groups and venues to facilitate tennis with easy to access training, extensive resources and lesson plans, as well as providing essential equipment.
Almost all of our events and competitions in Great Britain wouldn’t be possible without the support of tennis Officials. We support people across multiple officiating roles, from Competition Organisers at local tournaments all the way up to Chair Umpires at Grand Slam events, to reach their aspirations in the game.
Our Officials License Scheme is a leading membership offering to Officials in Great Britain with a host of unique benefits. Through the scheme we provide world-class continuous professional development opportunities as well as insurance, legal and tax advice, membership to the Association of British Tennis Officials (ABTO) and access to the Wimbledon ballot.
Over 25,000 people choose to volunteer in tennis across Britain at a local, county, regional and/or national level – whether it be supporting at local courts or helping out at our summer events.
There are a wide variety of ways to volunteer in tennis and we offer guidance, training and support for people looking to get involved, as well as venues looking to recruit different roles.
Every year, we celebrate the incredible work of our volunteers across Great Britain at the annual LTA Tennis Awards. Anyone can nominate a volunteer for an award, with the shortlisted nominees celebrated at our ceremony, alongside some of the biggest names in British tennis.
