For all other supervisory situations, the following ratios are required:

  • 2 adults for every 8 children aged 10 and under.
  • 2 adults for every10 children aged 11 and over.

Regardless of the overall supervision ratio, at least two adults should be supervising children/young people at all times. If the group of children is male and female, there should, where possible, be male and female adult supervisors. The number of adult supervisors to children/young people may need to be increased depending on factors such as:

  • Age of players
  • Gender
  • Behaviour
  • Abilities within your group
  • Nature and duration of activities
  • Competence and experience of staff involved
  • Requirements of location, accommodation or organisation
  • Any special support, access or medical needs
  • Specialist equipment needed
