Heaton Mersey Tennis Club forms part of the Heatons Sports Club (established in 2006) which also offers rugby, lacrosse and cricket. We currently have 200 active tennis section members; 140 adults and 60 juniors who have invested in the quality coaching provided and give this position great earning potential. There are four floodlit artificial grass courts with the top of the range “Advantage turf” funded through a Sport England, Inspired facility grant in 2012. The club has a robust sinking fund in place and so will be able to cover the cost of a new surface when required.
The club has a very active social membership and prides itself on being an extremely friendly and welcoming place to play. Over the last 12 years, the club has also improved the performance of all its members, through the extensive Tennis Programme developed with the committee and delivered to an extremely high standard by the previous coaches.
In addition to the offer of individual lessons, the programme includes weekly group sessions for adult beginners, improvers and performance sessions for higher level team players. There are also several youth red, orange and green sessions each week as well as group sessions for the older junior girls and boys. We have great links with the local Primary School (opposite the club) and currently offer an after school club which provides great catchment for families and new members.
The evidence of the programme’s effectiveness is clearly demonstrated through the massive success the Club has had over the last few years, with all the teams in both the Summer and Winter Leagues and through individual, junior and adult member performance in competitions.
From having only 8 members and 1 men’s team in 2006, the club now has 4 adult men’s teams in Div’s 1, 5, 6 and 10 of the North East Cheshire Tennis League, 3 ladies teams in the Premiership, Div’s 3 and 7 of the NECLTL. In addition, there are junior teams of all age groups in the JNECLTL, Cheshire and Lancashire Team Tennis leagues.
