How to become a tennis or padel coach
Tennis or padel coaching is a fun, exciting and highly rewarding way for people of all ages and abilities to get more involved in the game – but where do you get started?
We have a range of courses and qualifications available for anyone who is thinking of getting started in coaching, designed to help you work on your foundational skills and give you an insight into the role of a tennis or padel coach.
From these, you can go on to undertake further qualifications or training to specialise more in grassroots tennis, performance tennis or coaching a specific audience such as youth, adults or disability.
We have four different entry points into coaching - each targeted at different people:
- LTA Youth Tennis Leaders (young people aged 11-18)
- Pre-LTA Assistant (women)
- LTA Assistant (Level 1)
- LTA Padel Instructor

This programme equips you with essential life skills, both on and off the court. As an LTA Youth Tennis Leader, you'll gain hands-on experience by shadowing lead coaches, setting up drills, and managing sub-groups during sessions. It's a stepping stone to a fulfilling coaching career.
Empowering women in tennis coaching, the Pre-LTA Assistant course is your gateway to the coaching world.
Exclusively designed for aspiring female coaches, this programme provides insights into tennis coaching in a supportive environment.
Whether you opt for face-to-face sessions or online modules, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the LTA Assistant (Level 1) qualification. Connect, learn, and build confidence with other aspiring coaches.
Embark on your coaching journey with the LTA Assistant (Level 1) qualification.
This foundational two-day course imparts essential coaching skills, from group management to effective demonstrations.
As the initial step in our coaching pathway, completion equips you to assist seasoned coaches and paves the way for the advanced LTA Tennis Instructor (Level 2) qualification.
