The city is home to 15 different tennis venues, from the 18 courts available at The Northumberland Club to the nine park sites across Newcastle, you will always find a great spot to have a hit through our online booking service.

High-energy sessions, packed with fun exercises and games to help learn new skills on and off the court. If you’re looking to get your kids playing tennis, our LTA Youth programme for ages 4-18, is just for you.
With six different stages, starting with Youth Start, the programme develops with the player, keeping it fresh and exciting the whole way through. The LTA Youth programmes at the Northumberland Tennis Academy and The Northumberland Club are just a few examples of the excellent coaching opportunities for kids in the area.
Adults
Want to learn to play tennis for free in Newcastle? Exhibition Park and Gosforth Central Park both offer welcoming and family friendly ‘Tennis for Free’ sessions every weekend. These coach-led sessions are extremely well attended, providing a great opportunity get on court with friends and family and pick up a racket!
In addition, adults looking to work on their skills or pick up a new sport might want to try our Tennis Xpress course as a great way learn and practice your tennis. Or, if you want to get in a full workout on court then why not try a Cardio Tennis session - a fun sociable group fitness class that is open to players of all ages and abilities. Leazes Park Tennis Club is one of several clubs across the city offering Cardio Tennis sessions to put you through your paces.
In the recent past, Newcastle and Gateshead played host to the World Transplant Games, including its tennis event, which was held at The Northumberland Club.
The Northumberland Open, which first started in the 1880s, is a firm fixture in Newcastle’s summer tennis season, with the annual tournament taking place at the Northumberland Club in Jesmond. The Northumberland Open continues to provide competitive opportunities for players to this date, every August.
