Tia Norton won her first Cupra FIP Tour title of the season over the weekend combining with Spain’s Silvia Lopez Vidal to lift the FIP Promotion Sharjah trophy.
This is Norton’s third FIP-level title of her career and follows semi-final and quarter-final finishes at FIP Rise events in Dubai and Cairo.
Third seeds Norton and Vidal cruised into the final without dropping a set before closing out the title with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Gimena Sol Perez and Maria Constanza Vega in the final.
Speaking to The Padel Paper, Norton said: "I was really chuffed to get this win playing with Sylvia for the first time. Coming into the tournament as third seeds we knew we had a chance but had a couple of strong pairs seeded above us, as well as the rest of the draw.
“In the final everything clicked, we kept great communication between the team, stayed calm and focused and we managed to get the win 2-0."
The title win has helped Norton jump seven places in the rankings to world No.137.
British No.2 Aimee Gibson also enjoyed a strong week in Dubai having reached the semi-final with Paula Canivell Varona.
Gibson and Varona lost against Perez and Vega 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-0 – narrowly missing out on a British clash in the final.
The Brits will now turn their attention to the FIP Rise Doha, where they will also be joined by Catherine Rose, Victoria Nicholas and British No.1 Christian Medina Murphy.
