• 2 MINUTE READ

Returning for the first time since 2019, owing to the pandemic, the LTA’s Junior National Championships are the highest level of domestic competition for junior tennis players in the country.

Last week saw Britain’s top junior players compete at the Nottingham Tennis Centre in the 12U and 14U Junior National Championships across both singles and doubles.

Returning for the first time since 2019, owing to the pandemic, the LTA’s Junior National Championships are the highest level of domestic competition for junior tennis players in the country.

The top 32 players competed in a round robin format with the leading two players from each group progressing through to the knockout stages. The winning players had to win through seven matches during the week to secure the coveted titles, the same number of matches a player must win on route to a grand slam title.

The atmosphere during the event was incredible and it was great to see so many players enjoying competitive matches

Over the six days of competition, there were 306 matches played across 16 match courts. A total of 661 sets and 5,447 games. Joseph Mazingham (14U Boys) and Hannah Klugman (14U Girls) were two stand out performers across the week winning both the singles and doubles titles.

This signature event in the British tennis calendar saw LTA President, David Rawlinson and The Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Merlita Bryan attend the Nottingham Tennis Centre last Saturday to present the trophies to the winning players and watch the culmination of the Championships. Attendees were also able to watch the LTA Summer National Tour for 10U and 11U which took place alongside the championships.
