Doubles duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool highlighted a successful start to the clay court season for the British players on the ATP Tour with a runner-up finish at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
In their second ATP Masters 1000 final of the season, seventh seeds Cash and Glasspool had two championships points but eventually lost to Romain Arneodo and Manuel Guinard 1-6, 7-6(8), 10-8.
Cash and Glasspool have cemented their place as one of the top doubles teams in the world having made back-to-back Masters finals in Monte-Carlo and Miami.
This result in the first clay court Masters of the season leaves them third in the PIF ATP Doubles Team Rankings.
During their impressive run in Monte-Carlo, the British duo claimed wins over a series of strong partnerships, including Alexander Zverev and Marcelo Melo, Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas, fourth seeds Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz, and top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, who defeated the Brits in the Miami Open final.
Australian Open champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara also enjoyed a winning return to the clay, reaching the semi-finals before losing to Arneodo and Guinard 6-4, 7-5.
Jack Draper makes winning start to clay court season
British No.1 Jack Draper also made a positive start to his clay court season in reaching the third round of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
After an opening round bye, Draper dispatched American Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-1 in a statement second round victory.
Draper eventually bowed out to semi-finalist and clay court specialist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4 in an epic third round clash.
The 23-year-old Briton showed great character to save a match point in the second set tie-break to force a decider but was eventually broken three times in the final set.
Draper will now be looking to target the Mutua Madrid Open ATP Masters 1000 event from 23 April.
