Clervie Ngounoue holding her trophy from the Lexus British Pro Series Birmingham event

Rising US star Clervie Ngounoue claims singles title at Lexus British Pro Series Birmingham

18-year-old American rising star Clervie Ngounoue claimed her first ITF singles title of 2025, whilst Portuguese sisters Francisca and Matilda Jorge secured doubles victory at the Lexus British Pro Series Birmingham at the Edgbaston Priory Club.

Ngounoue enjoyed a stellar week in Birmingham, dropping only two sets en-route to Sunday’s final.

After navigating a tricky second round tie against 2024 US Open Girls’ Singles champion Mika Stojsavljevic, Ngounoue went on to set up a final clash against Slovakian Viktoria Hruncakova in the final. There, the American fought back from a set down to eventually edge the Slovakian 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and claim the fourth ITF title of her career.

Speaking after the final, Ngounoue said, “This week was very eventful, it’s always nice to come out with the title at the end. It’s my third final this year so I was a little more eager to try to get this win.

"I’m glad I pushed myself and tried to take it point by point, day by day – I’m really glad where it got me. Viktoria is an amazing player, I know she represents Slovakia for Fed Cup (Billie Jean King Cup) and I’ve watched her play on tour a little bit so I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy match. I was really up for the opportunity; I’m glad I just never gave up and tried to stay with it but she played really well and I’m sure she’s going to be in more finals after this.”

In British news, Lily Miyazaki had the strongest week out of the home favourites in the singles draw, reaching the semi-finals before falling short to Hruncakova 6-4, 6-1.

In the doubles draw, Portuguese sisters and number one seeds Francisca and Matilda Jorge took home their second doubles title of the year and 19th as a team, but had to fight throughout the week to reach the summit.

After a bye in round one and a straight sets win in the quarter finals, it came down to a match tie break in the semi finals against the Latvian-French pair of Kamilla Bartone and Tiantsoa Rajaonah, with the Portuguese sisters coming out on top 6-4 2-6 14-12. The pair faced another match tie break in the final against Hruncakova, in her second final of the event, and Pole Alicja Rosolska, again coming out on top to take the title 6-2 4-6 10-5.

Speaking following the conclusion of the event, Tournament Director Lauren Beech said, “What a thrilling week of tennis here at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham.

"The W50 event witnessed many close battles, with both finals coming down to a deciding set and attracting strong local interest of over 100 spectators during the finals weekend. A special mention to the ball crew, who received outstanding feedback from players and officials alike.”
