Day one: Raducanu beaten by Kalinina in first round battle
Wild card Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open after being beaten by Anhelina Kalinina, 6-0, 7-6(6) in an hour and 41 minutes.
The Brit made a slow start to her campaign in Qatar, as a one-sided opening set saw her win just five points on her service games - leading the Ukranian to make a clean sweep in just 23 minutes.
However, Raducanu was soon able to find her form in the second in what was a set of fine margins. After saving four break points to keep the tie levelled at 3-3, the 2021 US Open champion forced a tie-break which saw her have set point at 6-5 - but the world No.30 held firm to save it before reeling off two points to seal the victory.
