Park tennis players surprised with their own centre court treatment
• 1 MINUTE READ
Your centre court is just around the corner...
There has never been a better time to pick up a racket and play tennis, and thanks to significant investment into thousands of park courts across Great Britain.
To celebrate the opportunities to play provided by the Park Tennis Project, eight lucky players at Southwark Park were treated to a Grand Slam experience, with their usual tennis sessions turned into a centre court spectacle, including umpires, line judges, ball kids and commentary from former British No.1 Johanna Konta and broadcaster Nick Lester.
Through the Park Tennis Project, your own Centre Court is closer than ever, with quality, accessible facilities brought to communities nationwide, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to play. Funded by the UK Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation and delivered by the LTA, thousands of park tennis courts around the country are being transformed.
This nationwide effort is breathing new life into park tennis courts, making the sport more accessible than ever before and ensuring communities across the country have access to quality, affordable facilities. Over 2000 courts across Britain have been transformed and reopened to the public.
Park tennis courts play a crucial role in providing people of all ages and abilities the chance to pick up a racket, get active, and have fun playing tennis. These courts are the heart of communities, often serving as the first point of contact with the sport, especially for women, girls, and those from underserved backgrounds.
We are aiming to boost annual participation in park tennis by over 500,000 players through this programme, ensuring that the sport’s future is as vibrant and inclusive as the communities it serves.
