Murray, Evans and Venus Williams among early wild cards confirmed for summer grass court events
• 3 MINUTE READ
Just days away from the start of the grass court season, we've confirmed the first star names to receive wild cards.
Starting next Monday with the main draw the Lexus Surbiton Trophy, former two-time Wimbledon singles champion Andy Murray will join British No.2 Dan Evans who will be the top seed in very competitive men’s draw and 2022 cinch Championships quarter-finalist, Ryan Peniston.
Murray said, “The LTA’s Lexus Surbiton Trophy is a great way for me to start my grass court season. It’s nice to play somewhere that has the feel of a traditional club and I’m hoping to get some good matches and practice in there during the week in front of the British fans.”
The field at Surbiton Racket & Fitness Club, 4-11 June features at least 15 of the world’s top 100 men, along with some of the best women in the world including Brits Jodie Burrage, Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter, Katie Swan and Heather Watson. Remaining British wild cards on the men’s and women’s side for the Lexus Surbiton Trophy next week will be confirmed tomorrow afternoon after 16:00.

The following week (12-18 June) at the Rothesay Open Nottingham, Evans headline the men’s ATP challenger event, having won the title there two out of the last three editions. Evans said, “I have some great memories of playing at the LTA’s Nottingham Tennis Centre. The courts there are excellent and it’s a place I feel very much at home competing at.” There will be further wild cards confirmed for Nottingham next week.

The final player line-ups for Birmingham will be confirmed before Friday 16 June.
