• 2 MINUTE READ
The draws are set for this year’s Miami Open as the British tennis stars get set for the second successive WTA 1000 and ATP Masters 1000 event in the States.
British stars Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu, Jack Draper and Cam Norrie have all been included in this year’s main draw, with more hopefuls still challenging in qualifying.
Miami Open first round draw
- Katie Boulter (GBR) vs Peyton Stearns (USA)
- Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Sayaka Ishii (JPN) (WC)
- Jack Draper (GBR) vs Bye
- Cam Norrie (GBR) vs Yunchaokete Bu (CHN)
British No.1 Boulter will open her account in Miami up against American Peyton Stearns in a tough first round draw.
Boulter has lost against the world No.43 on their previous two meetings, but they haven’t faced each other in two years. The winner will move on to play 27th seed Elise Mertens in the next round, who recently won the WTA 250 Singapore Tennis Open at the beginning of the year.
Should she make her way into the third round, Boulter could face a re-match with world No.2 Iga Swiatek after she lost an epic three-setter against the Pole at the United Cup in January.
Raducanu meanwhile has been drawn up against 19-year-old Japanese wild card Sayaka Ishii in the opening round.
The former US Open champion will be hoping for her first win since defeating Greece’s Maria Sakkari in Dubai, which would set up a clash with world No.10 and recent WTA 500 Merida Open winner Emma Navaro.
Fresh off the back of the biggest title of his career at Indian Wells, Draper arrives in Miami as the sixth seed and with a bye into the second round.
His first opponent will be the winner of Roberto Bautista Agut against 19-year-old rising star Jakub Mensik.
In the third round he could face potentially 25th seed Alexei Popyrin and should he make it to the fourth round, a possible rematch against Indian Wells runner-up Holger Rune.
Norrie will face a tough task through the opening rounds in Miami – starting out against China’s Yunchaokete Bu, with 10th seed Alex de Minaur waiting in the next round.
The former world No.8 will be hoping to build on his third round in Indian Wells and quarter-final at Delray Beach over the last couple of weeks.
Jacob Fearnley and Billy Harris are in the final round of qualifying today, which could make up six Brits in the singles main draw.
