Miami Open 2025: Emma Raducanu reaches career-first WTA 1000 quarter-final

Emma Raducanu has breezed through to her first WTA 1000 quarter-final at the Miami Open after beating 17th seed Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round.
Raducanu booked her spot in the final eight after securing a ruthless 6-1, 6-3 victory over Anisimova in an hour and eight minutes.
This marked the first time Raducanu has won four consecutive matches at the same tournament since her historic run to the 2021 US Open title. As a result, she's now climbed back inside the world's top 50 for the first time since 2023, according to the WTA live rankings.
In the next round, she will face either world No.4 Jessica Pegula or Marta Kostyuk.
“In a way it was similar (to her match yesterday)," Raducanu said in her on-court interview. "I felt like something was going on down the other side and it’s really difficult to stay focused when you opponent is making errors and then all of a sudden just blasting the lines and winners. When things are, in a way, more normal, you know you have to be locked in every single point.
“I’m really proud of how I came through that. Playing Amanda (Anisimova) again isn’t easy – she’s had some amazing wins, top 20, won a 1000 event this year and she’s playing great tennis.
“It was important to keep the balance of being aggressive because if you just stay defensive the whole time, I got found out a couple of times, but I was happy with how I took that onboard but kept going with for my shots as well. It’s difficult but I’m really happy with how I’m moving on these courts and feeling pretty good.
“I’ve come a long way in the last week since Indian Wells, I wasn’t necessarily feeling great about my tennis but this week I’ve got some really good people around me and have fun with off the court – that’s extremely important. For me who’s extremely expressive and when I play my best I’m definitely authentic, true to myself and creative.”
Raducanu put on a serving masterclass during her third round match against McCartney Kessler and picked up right where she left off during her fourth round clash against recent Qatar Open champion, Anisimova.
The Briton didn’t drop a single point during any of her service games in the opening set but it was a completely different story for Anisimova, who struggled to cope with Raducanu’s aggression and intensity.
The former US Open champion was equally impressive on the return where she won 16/26 points on the Anisimova’s serve to break the American three times and seal the set in just 24 minutes.
After the world No.17 received a medical timeout at the end of the first set, she began to show glimpses of a revival, but Raducanu continued to stay focused and maintain her level early on.
After the pair exchanged breaks in the third and fourth games of the set, it was the 22-year-old Brit who had the last say as she secured the decisive break thanks to a wide forehand from the 17th seed, before going on to back it up with a hold to 30.
Stepping up to serve for a place in her first WTA 1000 quarter-final, Raducanu calmly closed out the match with hold to 15 as Anisimova hit another forehand long.
Raducanu could be set to face 2024 US Open runner-up Pegula in the quarter-finals, who she beat on the grass last summer at the Lexus Eastbourne Open, or the in-form Kostyuk.
The Brit currently holds a 1-1 record against both players.
