Megan Knight & Scott Watson win 14U Tennis Europe Junior Masters titles

The Brits winning both singles titles in the same age group winners is a unique achievement for the 14U draws at the season-ending event.

Unseeded Knight became the first British player to win the girls’ singles trophy after an impressive 6-1, 6-4 win over third seeded Czech Katerina Zajickova in testing conditions during the final.

“It was a good match, a high level,” Knight said after her historic win. “Of course, the conditions were tough. The court got heavy and the ball was heavy so it became more of a tactical game, to see who could outlast the other.”

Knight made the final having finished first place in Group B, with two wins in her three matches – topping the group on her games won percentage.

The young Brit has previously been part of last year’s 12U GB Summer Cup squad that finished in second place and the 2024 14U team that came in fifth.

The 13-year-old is currently supported by the LTA 16U National Age Group Programme.

Watson sealed the British title double after he overcame Spain’s Toni Escarda Piñeiro in the final 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought battle at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

The Brit went undefeated throughout the week – winning all three of his group matches without dropping a set before going on to become the first British boys’ singles champion since Joshua Sapwell in 2010.

Watson is currently ranked joint second in the Tennis Europe 14U rankings and is one of three Brits inside the top four – including Eric Lorimer and Niall Pickerd-Barua.

He took home the silver medal at the European Championships last month and played a key role in the 14U GB boys’ Summer Cup team that finished in second – only the second GB team to make the final.

Watson currently trains at the Loughborough University Tennis Academy.

Both Knight and Watson also won singles trophies at the Lexus Junior National Championships in August and used that momentum to go on and clinch this year’s Junior Masters.
