Just under 6,000 teachers have already registered for the LTA’s new schools programme – LTA Youth Schools – much to the delight of two-time Paralympic medallist Lucy Shuker.
In a bid to increase the number of school children playing tennis in Britain, the LTA has developed LTA Youth Schools as part of LTA Youth – the new and innovative junior programme to help more children enjoy tennis.
With the focus on developing kids both as tennis players and people – by helping them learn a number of new life skills – the course has proven popular with teachers with 5,995 registered and 1,356 already trained.
“It’s great to have so many schools registering for the LTA Youth programme,” said Shuker, who is also a Youth Sport Trust ambassador.
“I would love to see as many children as possible learn how to play tennis. You learn so many skills through tennis hand eye co-ordination, team work and your fitness.
“The more people we get to play tennis the better - I just want to see as many people in Britain falling in love with tennis.”
