LTA Pledgeball League returns for 2025
• 5 MINUTE READ
As the theme of Earth Day 2025 is Our Power, Our Planet, we are taking a look at some of the LTA venues who have introduced renewable sources of power, thereby protecting their pockets in the long term and protecting where we play.
LTA Pledgeball League is back!
The climate crisis and changes to the environment are impacting tennis at all levels, but to the theme of World Earth Day we have more power than we realise to enact change to counteract this.
Our partnership with Pledgeball, the research-backed charity dedicated to rallying the sports community to tackle climate change, is back for 2025, and together we are Rallying for Tomorrow.
As the tennis community we have huge amount of power to drive change.
In 2024, thousands of nature-friendly pledges were made by people at tennis venues across Britain to make small changes in their lives – taking shorter showers, using reusable water bottles and coffee cups, and taking public transport to name a few – to collectively make a big difference to tennis’ impact on the environment.
This year, we are aiming for even more tennis players at LTA registered venues to join us in leading change, submitting pledges on behalf of their venue via the Pledgeball website.
Four rounds will run from June to September, giving players even more opportunities to win fantastic prizes by making a pledge and making a difference.
Katie Cross, Founder and CEO of Pledgeball said, “We are thrilled to be working with the LTA again. As the tennis community, we have a huge amount of power to drive change. By making a pledge and taking positive actions, we can all protect the future of our sport.”
Jack Baker, Head of Public Policy and Sustainability at the LTA said, “We are incredibly excited to be partnering with the award winning charity Pledgeball for a third consecutive year. In 2025, we are encouraging as many LTA registered venues as possible to take part, pledge to make positive change and protect our planet.”

How LTA registered venues are making a difference
Tennis venues around the country are already playing their part to protect the planet.
Bramhall Lane Lawn Tennis Club
Bramhall Lane Lawn Tennis Club have taken a planet-first approach to energy use, and are committed to being a sustainable venue for the future.
At the end of last summer, a renewable energy system was installed at the club. The solar PV system is expected to generate some 14,900 KWH/yr with an annual CO2 saving of 3166kg; with an expected return on our investment of 8.5 years.
Alexandra Pollitt, Club Manager at Bramhall Lane Lawn Tennis Club said, “Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint and have a positive impact on the environment. We have since partnered with the company who installed the solar panels who are now working with us as a valued club sponsor.”
Thongsbridge Tennis and Fitness Club
Thongsbridge Tennis Club may be over 100 years old, but they are certainly forward thinking when it comes to energy resource. Not only do they use exclusively LED lighting across their site, but they also have over 200 individual solar panels installed.
Thongsbridge are also looking to go even further afield, or further downstream perhaps, as they are also in discussions with a local company around installing a hydro generator in a nearby water source, which would increase the percentage of their energy produced by renewable sources.
Redland Green Club
Redland Green took the crown in the final round of the LTA Pledgeball League 2024.With a goal to be net-zero by 2030, the venue has made drastic impacts to their energy usage since implementing a couple of significant sustainable changes.
Their outdoor electricity usage fell by an impressive 41% thanks to switching to energy-efficient LED floodlights.
Towards the end of last year they installed roof insulation which has already seen a 16% reduction in gas energy usage.
Redland have also introduced several other sustainable initiatives and are currently using Zellar to track and report on their carbon emissions and wider sustainability projects. You can have a look at their profile here.
