Lord Davies to step down as LTA Chairman in 2025

• 1 MINUTE READ

Lord Davies, who has served as LTA Chairman since 2018, will step down from the role following The Championships in 2025.

Mervyn Davies has overseen a period of significant growth in tennis participation and strong results on the court at the elite end of the sport.

During his tenure the LTA became the National Governing Body for Padel, the LTA Tennis Foundation was established, and the organisation delivered a strong and stable financial performance whilst investing heavily in the National Tennis Centre, Nottingham Tennis Centre, upgrading the summer grass court major events and being a host nation for both the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals and the Davis Cup Finals Group Stages in 2022-2024. The organisation also undertook a major piece of work to modernise governance throughout its County structure.

Lord Davies served two full three-year terms and agreed to stay on for a further year to allow adequate time for the LTA to begin the search for a successor. That search has now begun and a public advertisement for a new Chair will be posted in the coming days.

Rachel Baillache, LTA Senior Independent Director, said, “Mervyn has made a very significant contribution to the LTA over the past six and a half years and has been a strong chair during a period of great change. His astute and strategic leadership of the Board has allowed the LTA Executive team the freedom to deliver, whilst he was always available to offer wise counsel or help navigate the challenges that have arisen. We have all enjoyed working with him and value his experience and his guidance.”

Scott Lloyd, LTA Chief Executive, said, "Mervyn has been absolutely committed to the determined intent behind the LTA's vision, 'Tennis Opened Up', since its inception. His leadership and support have been a source of great inspiration to me and the other members of the LTA Executive team."

Lord Davies said, “It has been an honour to Chair the LTA Board for the past six and a half years. I’m very proud of all that we have achieved in that time, and the fact that tennis and padel in Britain are in such good health.

"Whilst there have naturally been challenges, not least Covid, there have also been many inspiring moments on and off court that have demonstrated how far we’ve come as an organisation. I’d like to thank the rest of the Board and all those I have worked alongside throughout my time in the role.”
