• 1 MINUTE READ
An action-packed 2024 domestic wheelchair tennis season comes to an end this weekend when more than 30 players line up to contest a selection of singles and doubles draws at the Lexus Wheelchair Tennis National Finals at The Shrewsbury Club, from 28 November to 1 December.
The culmination of a calendar that has included LTA regional tournaments and county championships and the inclusion of wheelchair tennis in Play Your Way To Wimbledon, powered by Vodafone, this year’s National Finals again offers competitive opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.
Titles will be on offer in men’s, women’s and quad events, for players whose disability affects both upper and lower limbs, as well as for many of the country’s leading players aged 18 and under.
All three reigning senior champions return to defend their titles after Philip Fielding and Naomie Tarver were both crowned first-time winners in the men’s and women’s singles in 2023, with Gary Cox returning to try and win the quad singles title for the fifth time since 2018.
Tarver was one of several multiple champions in LTA Regional Series tournaments in 2024 and once again lines up for the women’s singles alongside 2023 runner-up Tracy Vallance. Meanwhile, Kevin Lewis and Mark Langeveld, also both multiple finalists in LTA Regional Series tournament this season, will be among the leading contenders in the men’s singles.
2024 LTA Wheelchair Tennis National Finals Draws
Many of the players on the LTA’s National Age Group Programmes will also contest the men’s, women’s and quad draws as well as the junior boys’ and girls’ draws.
Looking ahead to the Lexus Wheelchair Tennis National Finals, Tournament Director and LTA Wheelchair Talent Pathway Manager, Matt Grover, said: “The National Finals has long been a vital milestone for many of Britain’s most celebrated wheelchair tennis players, helping to shape their journeys to the top.
"With the incredible momentum sparked by the success of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, this year’s event promises to inspire the next generation. It’s a chance for rising stars to challenge seasoned competitors, showcasing not only their talent but also the inclusivity and universal appeal of wheelchair tennis—a sport truly for everyone.”
