Jodie Burrage continues comeback with doubles title while Luke Johnson lifts 10th Challenger crown

Burrage brings home first title of the year
Jodie Burrage will take plenty of confidence from the past week in Portugal after she jump-started injury her comeback with a doubles title at the W100 Caldas da Rainha.
Competing in just her second tournament since March after being forced out of the game due to injury Burrage joined forces with Anastasia Tikhonova for the doubles draw at the W100 event.
The pair made a strong start to the week where they defeated fellow Brit Sarah Beth Grey and Yasmine Mansouri. From there, they went on to drop just one set en route the final match against third seeds and home favourites Francisca Jorge and Matilde Jorge.
Burrage and Tikhonova edged a tight opening set tie-break before wrapping up a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory – marking the Brit’s first title of the season and second biggest of her career.
Johnson wins 10th Challenger title of his career
British doubles star Luke Johnson continues to grow from strength-to-strength on the ATP Challenger tour, with the 30-year-old clocking a 10th Challenger title of his career and fifth of the year.
Johnson teamed up with Sander Arends for the Challenger 125 event at the Saint Tropez Open. The pair got off to a flying start and barely dropped a game in their opening two rounds, before going on to edge a tight 4-6, 7-5, 13-11 win over Benjamin Hassan and Davis Vega Hernandez in the semi-final to give themselves a shot at the silverware.
Their final clash against Sam Verbeek and Andre Goransson saw the British, Dutch duo edge the match-deciding tie-break, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 to etch their names on the trophy.
Elsewhere, former world No.14 Kyle Edmund had a week to remember after he reached his first Challenger semi-final since 2019 at the Columbus Challenger. Across the tournament, the Brit defeated three players ranked higher than him, including former world No.39 J.J Wolf, before missing out on a spot in the final to eventual champion Naki Nakagawa 7-6(5), 0-6, 6-2.
Jones secures doubles crown in Sweden
Ben Jones has clinched his second ITF doubles title in as many months after emerging victorious at the M15 Vaxjo in Sweden. The 26-year-old competed alongside German Marvin Moeller, with the pair having to come through a tough field on their way to the trophy.
After defeating two all-Swedish pairs in the quarter and semi-finals, Jones and Moeller were forced to fight back from a set down in the final match against Phillip Jordan and Karl Poling, eventually prevailing 1-6, 6-2, 10-7.
This title marked Jones' fifth doubles trophy of the year, which he added to three other ITF titles and the Kachreti Challenger 50 crown he picked up back in May.
Harris claims doubles delight in Gold River
Martha Harris is the latest Brit to win a title on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour after partnering Maylee Phelps to win the women’s doubles at the USTA Northern California Section Wheelchair Championships in Gold River, USA.
Harris and Phelps comfortable won all three of their matches, defeating top seeds Canada’s Anne-Marie Dolinar and the USA’s Laura Goodkind 6-2, 6-1 to secure their first doubles title in their debut tournament as a partnership and give Harris her second doubles title of the season.
Harris also reached her first main draw singles final of 2024 after defeating second seed Dolinar 7-5, 6-2 and American Ashley Sisti 6-1, 6-1 but was denied the title by her doubles partner and top seed Phelps, who won the final 6-0, 6-0.
Joshua Johns made it to his sixth successive men’s doubles final at the Plock Open in Poland as he and Japan’s Tomoya Tachi attempted to follow up their victory at the Plock Cup. However, after two straight sets wins to secured their place in another final, Johns and Tachi eventually finished runners-up to Poland Jakub Dominik Bukala and Spain’s Mario Roque 6-0, 7-6(9), having beaten the same partnership just days earlier to win the Plock Cup.
Johns also saw his bid to reach a fifth successive men’s singles final come to an end against Roque after the Spaniard won their quarter-final 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).
