The Japan Open, the third Super Series event of the year on the ITF’s UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, returns this month for its 41st edition with four Brits in action in Iizuka City.

When is the Japan Open 2025?
The Japan Open takes place from Tuesday 15 April through to Sunday 20 April.
Where is the Japan Open 2025 being held?
The Japan Open will take place at the Iizuka Sports Resort Tennis Courts in Iizuka City, Fukuoka, on the same site as the tournament’s traditional home previously known as Chikuho Heights.
Which British players be competing at the Japan Open 2025?
British players will contest each of the main draw singles and doubles events at the Japan Open 2025, with Ben Bartram and Andrew Penney in the men’s singles and doubles, Lucy Shuker in the women’s singles and doubles and Greg Slade in the quad singles and doubles.
British No.2 Gordon Reid is still currently the only previous British winner of the men’s singles title in Iizuka after back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018, while Alfie Hewett was runner-up in the men’s singles and doubles (with Reid) in 2024.
British No.3 Bartram will arrive for his first tournament in Japan in fine fettle directly from winning his first singles and doubles titles of 2025 at the Cougar Open in Houston, while Penney played his first tournament in Asia this season at the ITF 1 Series Seoul Korea immediately before heading to Japan.
Meanwhile, Shuker will arrive in Japan in good heart after winning her first Super Series doubles title since 2019 at last month’s Cajun Classic in Louisiana and ending her USA tour with her first singles title since 2023 at the Cougar Open in Houston.
Paris 2024 Paralympic doubles silver medallist Slade will contest his first Japan Open after reaching the quad doubles final at the Seoul Korea Open. His only previous visit to Japan ended on a winning note with the quad doubles title at the 2024 Kobe Open.
