Jamie Murray & John Peers clinch seventh title together at Swiss Indoors Basel

• 1 MINUTE READ

Jamie Murray and John Peers won their first title together since 2015 at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Sunday, as the duo continue their strong form since reforming the partnership in the second half of this season.

Qualifiers Murray and Peers defeated top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic 6-3, 7-5 in an hour and 24 minutes to get their hands on the Swiss Indoors Basel doubles trophy.

It’s the 33rd ATP title of 38-year-old Murray’s career and a seventh alongside Peers since 2013.

“It was a crazy week for us,” Murray said. “We managed to battle through today, it was a really tough match.

"There were a lot of opportunities for both teams to break serve. Everyone was returning good and putting a lot of pressure on the server and we managed to hang tough at the end.

“It was a battle and we’re super excited to win and have a strong finish to what has been a tough year.”

The British, Australian pairing have enjoyed an incredible week in Switzerland. The duo won five straight match tie-breaks en route to the final, starting with two rounds of qualifying, before going on to knock out third seeds Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti in the quarter-finals, and then second seeds Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the semis.

They saved their best performance for last – saving eight of 10 break points against Koolhof and Mektic to eventually clinch Murray’s second title of the 2024 season.

It's the former world No.1s first title above ATP 250 level since the Cincinnati Masters 1000 in 2018 with Bruno Soares.

In other doubles news, Britain’s Neal Skupski finished runner-up in the men’s doubles final alongside New Zealand’s Michael Venus.

Skupski and Venus lost to home favourites Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler 4-6, 6-3, 10-1 in the final.

However, there was a British champion in the men’s singles – Jack Draper lifting his first ATP 500 trophy after beating Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-5 in the final.
