James Shaw wins first international singles title at Wroclaw Cup

James Shaw led a Brit clean sweep of the top three positions as he won his first international quad singles title at this week's Wroclaw Cup in Poland. Shaw’s victory brought the latest title for a player on the Tennis Foundation’s Wheelchair Tennis World Class Programme.
Shaw, the reigning quad singles National champion, won all four of his matches in the five-way round-robin event, with fellow Brits Ian Payne and Richard Green finishing the event on three wins and two wins apiece.
All three Brits repelled the challenges of Polish players Jacek Wierdak and Radoslaw Rudzki.
Shaw came out best in two tough matches against Green and Payne. He defeated Green in two tie-breaks for a 7-6(5), 7-6(2) victory and also held on to beat Payne 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Shaw had a walkover against Wierdak, whilst also beating Rudzki 6-3, 6-3.
Payne earned runners-up honours after three-set matches against both Green and Shaw, whilst also beating Wierdak 6-0, 6-1. The contest between 19-year-old Payne and Green, which ultimately decided second place ended, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in Payne’s favour.
Green completed the event having beaten Wierdak 6-2, 6-0 and Rudzki 6-2, 6-3.
Shaw’s maiden international quad singles title comes after he won his first ever international quad doubles title at the 2015 North West Challenge.
