All the action from the British tennis stars around the world, including a runner-up finish for the British No.1, silverware for doubles players and a career first for one young Briton.
Draper, Cash & Glasspool lead British success in Qatar
British No.1 Jack Draper finished runner-up in his first ATP final of the season at the Qatar Open following a strong week in Doha.
23-year-old Draper recorded victories against Alexei Popyrin, Christopher O’Connell, Matteo Berrettini and Jiri Lehecka to seal a place in his fifth tour-level final of his career.
Despite coming back from a set down against now 17-time ATP champion Andrey Rublev, Draper eventually lost the final 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 in two hours and three minutes.
Draper’s run in Qatar has however clinched him a new career-high ranking at world No.12. He has now withdrawn from the tournament in Dubai this week to focus on the upcoming events in Indian Wells and Miami.
There was British success in the Qatar Open men’s doubles, with in-form duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool lifting their third title together.
Cash and Glasspool defeated countrymen Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in the final 6-3, 6-2 to add to their previous trophies in Tokyo and Brisbane.
This was only the third all-British ATP Tour doubles final in the Open Era – the first outside of the UK (both previous finals were at Eastbourne in 2012 and 2018).
Cash is now at a career-high world No.18 while Glasspool is at No.17 in the ATP doubles rankings.
Paris continues doubles rise
Britain’s Joshua Paris continued his impressive doubles form this season with a second ATP Challenger Tour title at the Lexus Glasgow Challenger.
Paris teamed up with Israel’s Daniel Cukierman to clinch the title with a narrow 5-7, 6-4, 12-10 victory over top seeds Vasil Kirkov and Marcus Willis in the final.
Paris’ trophy in Glasgow adds to his silverware in Koblenz back at the start of the month, as well as another final at the Tenerife Challenger last week.
He has risen 16 places in the rankings to world No.120 and will soon be banging on the door of becoming the latest Briton to break the top 100.
Bonding claims first professional title
17-year-old Oliver Bonding won his first professional singles title this weekend at the M15 Lannion in France.
The reigning 18U Lexus Junior Nationals champion won the title without dropping a set – finishing the week by defeating Axel Garcian 6-3, 7-6(9).
It’s a big step in the career of one of Britain’s young rising stars, who is currently ranked No.10 in the world in the ITF Junior rankings.
Bonding is supported by the LTA Pro Transition Programme – providing a range of support options to 16-22 year-old players to facilitate a full-time coaching programme, optimise their competition programme, and development of physical readiness for tour level tennis.
Slade & Shuker among title-winners in Bolton
In the second week of international competition at the Bolton Indoor ITF 2 Wheelchair Tennis Tournament – Britain’s Greg Slade and Lucy Shuker both secured titles.
Slade – who also won the singles and doubles at the ITF 3 event last week – added another singles crown to his tally.
The British No.2 and Paralympic doubles silver medallist won the title without dropping a set, finishing with a convincing win over American David Wagner 6-3, 6-4.
Slade and Wagner also finished runners-up in the doubles to Slovakia’s Tomas Masaryk and Shile’s Diego Perez – losing the final 6-4, 6-2.
In the women’s doubles, Shuker and French star Pauline Deroulede took home the title with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Zoe Maras and Maayan Kikri.
The British No.1 successfully defended her title from last year and came away with her first trophy of 2025.
