Hertfordshire at Aegon Summer County Cup 2017
Domestic Competition

Hertfordshire and Kent crowned Aegon Summer County Cup 2017 champions

• 1 MINUTE READ

The final week of July saw the Aegon Summer County Cup 2017 take place at thirteen grass-court venues across the nation, with the country’s top county players rallying together to either win promotion or avoid relegation.

44 counties across seven groups got stuck into the doubles-only competition and Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park played host to Group 1 – the premier level of competition where championship was all to play for…

In what was an incredibly close result, Hertfordshire claimed the crown for the men’s draw, while Kent ladies became champions for the first time since 1984!

It was a significant year for Bill Perkins who after many years as the competition’s referee, was concluding his County Cup journey; “It’s been an honour and a privilege to be associated with County Cup Tennis and I’ve enjoyed every moment”.

LTA Tournament Director Julie Piper added: “It was a very exciting end to another successful County Cup! It went right to the wire and I’m delighted for both teams.”

Meanwhile in Group 2, Derbyshire and Cambridgeshire men’s teams played their way into promotion and Norfolk and Essex followed suit for the ladies.

Finally, while players produced some of their best grass-court tennis, they were also put to the test with the ultimate County Quiz. Check out who comes out on top...

At the Aegon County Cup we put the teams knowledge to the test with 'The County Quiz'.
