Patten & Heliovaara continue impressive form in Dubai
Australian Open champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara made yet another final last week at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.
The British, Finnish duo came through a tough draw, with victories against Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus, Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski, and Robin Haase and Hendrik Jebens to reach their second final of the season.
Despite having four match points in the second set tie-break, Patten and Heliovaara missed out on the title to Yuri Bhambri and Alexei Popyrin 3-6, 7-6(12), 10-8 in a tense final.
Patten and Heliovaara have now made the semi-finals or better at four of the five tour events they’ve played this season. They are currently the top ranked team in the PIF ATP Doubles Teams Rankings for the 2025 season.
28-year-old Patten continues to close in on the world No.1 spot – currently ranked at No.3, he is 265 points off Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic. He is looking to become the fourth active British player to reach ATP doubles world No.1 status.
Jamie Murray and John Peers also equalled their best result of the year by reaching the semi-finals in Dubai before losing to the eventual champions 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
In women’s doubles, Heather Watson, Maia Lumsden, Eden Silva and Madeline Brooks all made the quarter-finals in Austin.
Stevenson crowned champion in Switzerland
Britain’s David Stevenson lifted his first title of the year and third ATP Challenger trophy of his career at the Lugano Challenger in Switzerland, alongside Canadian Cleeve Harper.
Stevenson and Harper had to come back from a set down to defeat Jakub Paul and David Pel in the final 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The result sees Stevenson jump 11 places in the world rankings to a new career-high of world No.111 as he closes in on his top 100 debut. Great Britain currently has nine players ranked in the top 125 in men’s doubles.
Elsewhere on the ATP Challenger Tour, Davis Cup star Billy Harris made the semi-finals in Bengaluru, India.
Eighth seed Harris defeated Enzo Coucaud, Marek Gengel and Tristan Skoolkate in the opening rounds, but eventually lost to American Brandon Holt in the final four 6-2, 7-6(4).
