Heather Watson joins Progress Tour Women's Championships field
• 2 MINUTE READ
Heather Watson will compete alongside GB Fed Cup teammates Harriet Dart and Katie Boulter at next month’s Progress Tour Women’s Championships at the National Tennis Centre.
Watson, 28, is a former Wimbledon mixed doubles champion and has won four WTA Tour tournament titles. Currently ranked inside the world’s top 50, she has accepted a wildcard into the £30,000 tournament.
The Progress Tour Women’s Championships will take place from 14-18 July and will provide a showcase for Britain’s best female tennis players as they return to competition. It follows Jamie Murray’s successful Battle of the Brits men’s event, held at the NTC last week, and provides another opportunity for Britain’s top women to compete as professional tennis continues its return from suspension following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Watson said: “I’m really excited about being part of the Progress Tour Women’s Championships. It’s been great to watch the boys in action at Jamie’s Battle of the Brits and now it’s time for the girls to get out there. There’s lots of talent in the women’s game in Britain. It should be a fantastic tournament.”
Additional wildcards have been awarded to Danielle Daley in singles and the pairing of Victoria Allen and Sasha Hill in doubles.
