• 1 MINUTE READ

While the US Open and Paralympics are in full flow at the moment, the Brits continue to bring home the titles competing on the ITF World Tennis Tour and UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

Brits lift three doubles titles

Mark Whitehouse, Eliz Maloney and James Story featured amongst this week’s title winners at events across Europe.

Whitehouse teamed up with Ukraine’s Eric Vanshelboim to win the M25 Oldenzaal last week.

Having saved a match point to come through the semi-final, Whitehouse and Vanshelboim finished with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over Rik Muller and Niels Visker in the final.

It marks the 12th ITF doubles title of Whitehouse’s career and second of the season having won the M25 Trimbach back in March.

24-year-old Maloney claimed her fourth career title this weekend alongside Kathleen Kanev at the W15 Valladoid.

Top seeds Maloney and Kanev made the final without dropping a set, before seeing off third seeds Celia Cervino Ruiz and Ana Filipa Santos 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 to lift the trophy.

Story won his first title since 2018 at the M15 Monastir with Siem Woldeab.

The British, American duo came into the tournament unseeded before taking out top-ranked partnership of Maximus Jones and Aziz Ouakaa in the second round 6-0, 6-4.

They went on to reach the final and finished off the week without losing a set – beating Tsihon Fedorov and Aliaksandr Liaonenka 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

Freya Christie had another strong weekend at the W50 Oldenzaal – ending the week as runner-up with Yuliana Lizarazo.

They were defeated in a close final against Polina Kudermetova and Ekaterina Makarova 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.

Andrew Penney won the singles and doubles title at the JTCC Championship this weekend – the third time he’s completed the double at an ITF event this season and is his first ITF 3 singles trophy.

Top seed Penney put in an impressive week to finish as the singles champion with a 6-3, 6-2 final win against Japan’s Shogo Takano.

In the doubles, he teamed up with France’s Olivier Langlois to defeat second seeds Francesco Felici and Jason Keatseangslip in the final 7-6(6), 6-3.

Joshua Johns made the finals of the BTA Wheelchair Open in Italy – finishing runner-up in the singles and doubles.

The young Brit lost to top seed Nicolas Charrier 6-2, 6-1 in the singles final, while he and Martin Hoerz-Weber were beaten by Charrier and Martin Legner 6-1, 6-1 in the doubles.
