Deaf tennis to take centre stage at National Tennis Centre

• 3 MINUTE READ

Deaf tennis takes centre stage at the National Tennis Centre next month when The Tennis Foundation hosts a Deaf Tennis Festival and the Deaf National Tennis Championships across the weekend of 15th-16th September in Roehampton, London.

Entries for the National Championships and bookings for the Deaf Tennis Festival are currently being invited ahead of what is guaranteed to be an exciting and fun weekend with something for players of all abilities. For more details click here.

Tennis Foundation National Deaf Tennis Coach and six-time National Champion Catherine Fletcher said:

A big part of the National Deaf Championships has always been to give young players the chance to be inspired by seeing some of the country’s and the world’s best deaf tennis players in action as well as getting on court themselves. This is especially true this year with the Tennis Foundation’s Deaf Tennis Festival guaranteeing a fun and inclusive weekend and an ideal opportunity for anyone to enjoy tennis on all levels and to find out more about what the Tennis Foundation can offer aspiring players. Alongside all the tennis it’s going to be a fantastic chance to meet and make new friends, too

The Deaf Tennis Festival on Saturday 15th September will offer a range of fun events and competitions to ensure there is an activity for everyone to enjoy.

Beginners will be able to try tennis in a fun environment, learn new skills and take part with friends, siblings and parents – these activities are for everyone, not just those who are deaf.

There will also be a fun competition in a ‘Fast 4’ format (first player to reach 4 games). This competition is only for deaf players but you can leave your hearing aids in. You don’t need to be a superstar – the focus is on enjoying tennis in a match environment!

The fun will begin at 9am and will finish at approximately 5pm on Saturday 15th with the option for families to be flexible if only taking part in activities.

Cost: Fun Competition – £10 per player / Activities only – £5 per player

Deaf National Tennis Championships – Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September

Play will start from 9.30am on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th.

Cost: Deaf Nationals Main Draw – £25 per player. Closing Date: 23rd August

Saturday BBQ Meal

All players who have booked their place on the Deaf Tennis Festival or have entered the Deaf National Championships will be given a complimentary BBQ Meal on Saturday night, 15th September with players’ guests being invited to join us for £10 per person. This will be a great social occasion with the chance to make new friends.
