Cincinnati Open 2024: Results & updates

Jack Draper’s run at the Cincinnati Open came to an end late on Saturday night as the British No.1 bowed out against Denmark’s Holger Rune in the quarter-finals.

The 15^th seed beat Draper 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 17 minutes to set up a semi-final against Frances Tiafoe.

Rune needed just one break point to get an early lead in a first set where he dropped just six points on serve.

Draper had come back from a set down to win both his previous matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime, but was unable to make it three from three.

After being broken in the first game of the second set, Draper was unable to convert on three break point opportunities trailing 3-2, as Rune eventually went on to serve out the match.

This is the first time that Draper has reached and ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final this season, which currently has him rising three places in the live ATP rankings to a new career-high at world No.25.

Doubles

Jamie Murray is the last Brit remaining in the doubles after he and Croatia’s Ivan Dodig secured a semi-final place with a comeback win against Arthur Fils and Nicolas Jarry, while Harriet Dart lost in the final four of the women's doubles.

Murray and Dodig saved an important early break point in the second set to eventually beat the French, Chilean duo 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-6.

They will play fourth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic for a place in the final after they knocked out Wimbledon champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara 6-2, 6-4.

Dart's career-best doubles campaign with Australia’s Ellen Perez ended in the semi-finals to Asia Muhammad and Erin Routliffe 7-6(5), 6-3.

There were also defeat Neal Skupski and Michael Venus, losing to top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-4, 6-4.

Jack Draper booked his spot in the last eight of the Cincinnati Open as he came from behind to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 - his third successive three-set victory of the week.

The Canadian had already knocked out seventh seed Casper Ruud in straight sets earlier on in the day after rain suspended play on Thursday night. However, he showed no signs of fatigue in the early stages of the third round battle as he converted his only break point of the match to take the opening set.

Like his previous match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the British No.1 was forced to fight back from a set down - eventually hunting down a break in both the second and third sets to prevail.

Draper will now meet Danish star and 15 seeded Holger Rune in the quarter-finals, after he ousted Gael Monfils in three sets.

Doubles

Harriet Dart and Australia's Ellen Perez sealed their spot in the semi-final after taking out fellow Brit Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova 6-1, 7-5. Next up, they face a tough challenge in the form of Erin Routliffe and Asia Muhammad as both pair's prepare to fight for a spot in Sunday's final.

Over in the men's doubles draw, British stars Henry Patten and Jamie Murray fought their way into the quarter-finals.

Murray and Croatia's Ivan Dodig came out on top against Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7-5, 7-6(4) to set up a meeting with singles stars Arthur Fils and Nicolas Jarry.

Reigning Wimbledon champions Patten and Harri Heliovaara edged a tight match agaisnt Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof, eventually running away in the match-deciding tie-break to win 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 10-5. Up next, they face Mate Pavic and Marceloa Arevalo.

Meanwhile, it was the end of the road for Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram who were defeated by all-American duo Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen 6-3, 5-7, 11-9. Salisbury and Ram will now turn their attention to the upcoming US Open where they will go in pursuit of a fourth consecutive men's doubles title.

Jack Draper pulled off an impressive comeback in the second round of the Cincinnati Open to defeat world No.11 Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets.

Draper had trailed by a set and then a break in the decider before rallying back to beat the ninth seed 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 20 minutes.

Tsitsipas had the chance to serve for the match at 5-4 in the third, but Draper found a way to break twice in the last three games to book his place in the third round.

The 22-year-old has now beaten the former Australian Open and Roland Garros runner-up in both of their meetings on tour. It’s the young Brit’s 11^th win against a top 20 opponent in his career so far.

"In the first hour I really struggled and that just isn't good enough against these top players,” he said after the match."In general, my grit, my determination and my attitude won me the match today, so I'm very proud of that."

Next up for Draper will be either Casper Ruud or Felix Auger-Aliassime for a place in the quarter-finals.

Doubles

Harriet Dart and Australian partner Ellen Perez pulled off the upset of the second round as they took out second seeds Su-Wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-5.

Dart and Perez saved two set points on Hseih and Mertens’ serve in the second set before going on to claim the Brits’ best doubles win of the season.

They will play fellow Brit Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova after they knocked out fifth seeds Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 7-5.

In the men’s doubles, Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski both fought their way to the quarter-finals as well.

Third seeds Salisbury and Rajeev Ram beat German duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 7-6(4), 7-6(3) to set up a clash with Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelson.

Meanwhile, Skupski and Michael Venus claimed a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 victory over sixth seeds Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Santiago Gonzalez.

They could face either top seeds and last weeks’ National Bank Open winners Marcel Granoller and Horacio Zeballos or Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski in the quarters.

Jack Draper booked his place in the second round of the Cincinnati Open after edging past qualifier Jaume Munar in a final set tie-break.

The British No.1 held off a spirited performance from the 27-year-old Spaniard to come through 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(5) in two hours and 35 minutes.

The win sets up a second round clash with ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Despite going 5-2 down and having called for the trainer at the end of the first set, Draper showed great resilience to reel off five straight games to take the lead.

This would prove a theme throughout the rest of the match. Munar took the second set, led by a break in the third and held a 4-2 advantage in the tie-break but still the 22-year-old Brit refused to die down.

The Stuttgart Open champion won five of the last six points, closing out the win on an ace – booking his first second round appearance at an ATP Masters 1000 event since the Italian Open in May.

Draper and Tsitsipas last met in Montreal back in 2022 where the young Brit came through in straight sets.

Doubles

Harriet Dart, Henry Patten, Neal Skupski and Jamie Murray picked up opening round wins in the men’s doubles draw as well.

Dart and Australian Ellen Perez picked up a first round win against Xinyu Jiang and Makoto Ninomiya 6-4, 6-4.

Wimbledon champions Patten and Harri Heliovaara kicked off their campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Brandon Nakashima and William Woodall.

cinch Championships and Rothesay International Eastbourne title-winners Skupski and Michael Venus beat alternates Julian Cash and Robert Galloway 6-3, 6-7(4), 12-10.

Meanwhile, Murray and Croatia’s Ivan Dodig knocked out Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6(4).

Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart both came out on the losing side of three-set battles during their opening round matches at the Cincinnati Open.,

Boulter was knocked out by world No.43 Magda Linette 2-6, 6-0, 7-5 in just under two hours.

The Brit produced a dominating set of tennis to clinch the opener before Linette pulled the momentum in her favour - breaking Boulter five times across the second and third sets to book her spot in the second round.

Meanwhile, Dart lost out to Rothesay Classic Birmingham champion Yulia Putintseva, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.

The British No.3 looked to continue her strong start to the tournament after fighting through two rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw, but was unable to sustain her level against the world No.34 who powered to victory in an hour and 48 minutes.

Doubles

Over in the doubles draw, Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova made a winning start to their campaign after overcoming Mirra Andreeva and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-3.

They now go on to play Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok in the second round.

Henry Patten, Jamie Murray, Neal Skupski and Dart are all set to feature on Wednesday's doubles schedule.
