Christian Medina Murphy wins fourth FIP Tour title in Hong Kong

• 1 MINUTE READ

British No.1 Christian Medina Murphy continued his impressive run of form last week by adding a fourth career FIP Tour title at the FIP Bronze Hong Kong II.

Teaming up with his usual Spanish partner Alberto Garcia Jimenez, the second seeds battled their way to a third trophy together without losing a set.

Medina Murphy and Jimenez beat third seeds Thijs Roper and Sten Richters in the semi-finals 6-2, 6-4 before moving on to knocking out top seeds Gustavo Nunes and Miguel Angel Solbes in the final 6-4, 6-4.

The FIP Tour is the first stage of the professional padel circuit, with four different levels of events, bronze, silver, gold and platinum.

“We’re really happy to win another FIP tournament," said the British No.1. "After an amazing start to the season, the last couple of tournaments weren’t at our usual level so this win is really positive for us.

“The next tournament we are going to play is in Alicante – another FIP – and after that we are heading to Italy.

“I want to say thanks to the LTA for their amazing support and to R3 – without them it’s impossible to play these tournaments and improve my ranking.”

We’re going to keep this level now into the coming tournaments and see if we can break into the top 100 soon.

The British, Spanish team have had a strong run of results of late, which has seen Medina Murphy rise to just outside the top 100.

In addition to the title in Hong Kong, last week they made the semi-finals of the FIP Bronze Kuala Lumpur and recently made the quarter-finals of the Premier Padel Cancun – the best result from a British padel player ever.

Last week, Medina Murphy was also named Male Padel Player of the Year at the LTA Awards, presented by Lexus.

“Thank you for the award as Male Player of the Year,” he added. “We’re going to keep this level now into the coming tournaments and see if we can break into the top 100 soon.”
