Brits on the double in men's events at the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow

• 2 MINUTE READ

Alastair Gray continued his superb start to 2025 by storming to the men’s singles title at the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow, already his third ITF singles crown of the year.

Gray was given a late wild card entry for the ITF M25 event at Scotstoun Tennis Centre, and took full advantage of the opportunity. Throughout the week, Gray played some exceptional tennis, reaching his third final of the year without dropping a set.

After starting the week with an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 win over Scot Ewen Lumsden, Gray bookended the week by facing qualifier and fellow Brit Millen Hurrion in the final, securing a perfect week in Glasgow with another straight sets win, 6-4, 6-3.

Speaking after the final, Gray said, “I love coming to Glasgow and playing this event. It’s the second time I’ve won here, so it’s great to come back and take the title.”

Brits enjoyed a strong week in the singles, with six of the eight quarter finalists made up of homegrown talent, including 2023 Wimbledon Boys’ singles champion Henry Searle, who lost to eventual runner-up Hurrion in the semi-finals.

Brits also dominated in the men’s doubles, with five of the eight pairs in the quarter finals made up of British duos.

In the end, it was the pairing of Finn Bass and James Story who took home the title, their first ITF doubles title as a pair.

After starting the week off strong, taking down the number three seeded Italian pair of Federico Bondioli and Filippo Romano in round one, Bass and Story defeated Belgian Slovak combination of Romain Faucon and Lukas Pokorny 6-2 3-6 10-7 in the final.

Bass said after their victory, “We had to do it the hard way this week, beating three seeds to take the title, but it’s great to win”, with Story adding,“We’ve been really well taken care of this week, it’s a great facility and we’ve enjoyed being in Glasgow.”

On the women’s side, Swiss third seed Valentina Ryser showed her class to take home her third title on British soil, after winning back-to-back titles in Sunderland in 2023 and 2024.

Taking on Czechia’s Nikola Bartunkova, herself fresh off her first title of the year at the Lexus British Pro Series Sunderland last week, a close match with limited opportunities for both players saw Ryser edge it 7-5, 7-6(4).

In the doubles, Brits Esther Adesina and Victoria Allen came up just short in the final to the French, American pair of Tiphanie Lemaitre and Paris Corley 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.

Tournament Director, Mike Cohen, said: “This week’s Lexus Pro Series event has been a great success, with British players doing particularly well in the men’s singles and doubles. It’s always nice to see the next generation of players breaking through, who someday we hope to see on the main tour. We’ve had big crowds all week as usual in Glasgow, which has generated a great atmosphere for the players.”

International tournaments such as the Lexus British Pro Series Glasgow are part of the LTA’s Performance Competitions Calendar (PCC) which provides significantly enhanced opportunities for British players at each age and stage of the performance player pathway on home soil. The calendar is designed to provide comprehensive opportunities for British players to play, earn ranking points and win prize money at home, throughout the year. The calendar is structured to reward success with players earning opportunities to ‘play up’ in older age groups and higher-level tournaments, with wild cards to allow players to advance when ready.
