British Padel players head to Padel Hub, Whetstone, for the second British FIP event of 2024

The Padel Hub, Whetstone in North London, will this weekend host the second British International Padel Federation (FIP) Rise event of 2024.

The competition will showcase the elite level of the sport currently taking Britain by storm, with the very best British and international players competing.

FIP Rise events are part of an international tour of competitions, the Cupra FIP Tour, with players competing from all over the world for prize money and ranking points. The event taking place at the Padel Hub, begins on Friday 30 August, and is the second of three FIP RISE events to take place in Great Britain this year.  

Padel is one of the fastest growing sports and is an innovative form of tennis that’s fun, easy to learn and extremely sociable. There is currently up to 150,000 people playing padel across 400 courts in venues around Great Britain.

The tournament will host a men’s and women’s event, with 32 pairs competing in the men’s draw, 16 in the women’s. On the women’s side, in form British number one Aimee Gibson, who won her first event at the FIP Promotion Cairo back in March and has made four semi-finals since the start of the year, will play alongside the British number two Tia Norton. They will be joined by fellow Brits Catherine Rose and Sofia Govorusa, as well as Lisa Phillips and Abigail Tordoff.

The Spanish team of Antonio Fernandez and Jose Casas Jimenez will headline the male draw. 21 British men will contend over the weekend, not including those who could progress from the qualifying rounds. Louie Harris, the highest ranked Brit in the draw, will compete next to Spaniard Miguel Martin Cano. The British teams of Nikhil Mohindra and Sandy Farquharson, Chris Salisbury and Alfonso Patacho are all set to compete on home soil this weekend.  

Tournament Director, John Leach said, “We are super excited to be hosting the second edition of the HOP London Padel Open at a Padel Hub venue in North London.

"It’s a really cool venue, we have amazing sponsors involved. We are bringing in some live entertainment, so it is an exciting weekend for all the family with free tickets available on the website. The British players are pumped up and ready to play the event alongside top international 50 players. Anyone can come down and watch."
