Recent results at Indian Wells
Emma Raducanu and Cam Norrie both missed out on the chance to reach the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Indian Wells despite close battles with Aryna Sabalenka and Gael Monfils.
Raducanu put in an impressive performance against the second seed and current Australian Open champion Sabalenka, but went on to lose 6-3, 7-5.
Having led by a set and a break, Norrie was eventually defeated by 12-time ATP title-winner Monfils 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-3 in three hours and 14 minutes.
Raducanu will take plenty of positives from strong outing against the two-time major champion. The 21-year-old fought well against the world No.2 and had four opportunities to overturn a 5-3 deficit, but Sabalenka kept her nerve to take the set with a brace of unreturnable serves.
The British star went blow for blow with the big hitting 25-year-old throughout the second but couldn’t capitalise on her chance for a second break at 4-4 – a costly opportunity missed.
Sabalenka dealt the killer blow on an inch perfect drop shot to seal the all-important break at 5-5. The Brit saved three match points against Sabalenka’s serve, but on the fourth time of asking the second seed rifled off a forehand winner behind Raducanu to see out the win.
Norrie had led by an early break in both the first and second sets, but on both occasions, Monfils came back firing and produced some high-level tennis to force two tie-breaks.
In the opening set, having previously missed the chance to serve out for the lead at 6-5 and then at 6-4 in the tie-break, the Brit benefitted from Monfils hitting back-to-back double faults to gift him the advantage.
The Frenchman made up for it in the second set, however. Having comeback from 3-0 down in the set, the 37-year-old dominated the tie-break, hitting winners off both wings before Norrie pushed the ball wide on his first set point.
Monfils took huge confidence going into the decider and continued to find the answer to everything Norrie had to throw at him. Once he connected with a laser backhand winner to break for a 5-3 lead, the former world No.6 served out the match to love.

Despite finding himself 2-0 down early in the second set, Norrie continued to get the better of Sonego in the lengthy baseline exchanges, winning the next five games before serving out the win on the second time of asking.
Raducanu got off to the perfect start, breaking in the opening game thanks to a pinpoint drop shot, before going on to double her advantage.
It soon became clear at the start of the fourth game that Yastremska was suffering from some discomfort and called for the medics before she was eventually forced to retire.

Emma Raducanu has punched her ticket to the second round at the BNP Paribas Open after wrapping up an impressive a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Spaniash qualifier Rebeka Masarova.
However, British No.3 Dan Evans lost against world No.42 Roman Safiullin 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
Raducanu made headlines at last year's tournament when she took out two seeds en route to the round of 16 and looked determined to make her mark once again on her return to California.
The Brit - who received a wild card to the WTA 1000 event - stamped her authority from the off as she broke the Spaniard three times to convincingly take the opener.
As well as striking with confidence and power throughout the match, the 2021 US Open champion stayed clinical during the pressure moments - saving eight out of 10 break points before closing out the victory on her fourth match point in an hour and 46 minutes.
Up next, Raducanu will take on 2024 Australian Open semi-finalist Dayana Yastremska.
Evans showed great resilience to come back from a a set and a break down to level in his opening round match against Safiullin.
The Brit's last victory came against Safiullin in Los Cabos, but the Brisbane semi-finalist exacted his revenge in the decider. Evans struggled to get any momentum on serve and was broken twice as Safiullin booked a second round clash with Sebastian Korda.
On day three, Andy Murray will take on fifth seed Andrey Rublev, Cam Norrie faces Lorenzo Sonego and the doubles draws get underway.
Andy Murray got off to a flying start at the BNP Paribas Open with a straight sets win over former world No.7 David Goffin, as both Jack Draper and Katie Boulter bowed out in the opening round.
Murray – who recently claimed his 500th hard court win in Dubai – defeated Goffin 6-3, 6-2 to set up a second round clash with fifth seed Andrey Rublev.
Rublev recently made headlines after being defaulted at the semi-finals in Dubai and will now face Murray on his return to court.
The former world No.1 looked in strong form in the Californian desert, taking three of Goffin’s service games without facing a single break point across an hour and 20 minutes. Murray has now won each of his last three first round matches.
Despite an impressive start, Draper's journey in Indian Wells came to an end against world No.66 Christopher O'Connell, losing 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 24 minutes.
Having made the semi-final at the ATP 500 in Acapulco last week, the 22-year-old looked set to book his place in the second round having taken the opener with relative ease.
However, a break to love on the Brit’s first service game of the second set signalled a resurgence from the Australian as he eventually levelled the match.
Draper had a two game advantage in the decider, but was unfortunately unable to make it count as the world No.66 rattled off six games in a row to close out the win.
Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, British No.1 Boulter lost to Italy’s Camila Giorgi 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes.
Coming off the back of lifting the biggest title of her career at the San Diego Open last week, Boulter couldn’t quite find her trophy-winning form against Giorgi, who broke the Briton four times to secure her place in the second round.
Day two will see Emma Raducanu kick-start her campaign against Rebeka Masarova, while Dan Evans takes on Roman Safiullin.
