All the latest from the British tennis stars over the last week including a Challenger singles final in India, more titles on home soil and success on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
Harris makes New Delhi Challenger final
Billy Harris reached his first ATP Challenger singles final of the season over the weekend competing at the New Delhi Challenger in India.
The Lexus GB Davis Cup star improved on his already strong start to the 2025 campaign with a series of impressive wins over Eric Vanshelboim, James McCabe, Elias Ymer and Tristan Schoolkate to make the final.
However, Harris had to settle for the runner-up spot after losing out to French 23-year-old Kyrian Jacquet 6-4, 6-2 in the title decider.
The 30-year-old Briton continues to make good progress on his quest to break into the ATP top 100 – jumping six ranking spots to world No.110. Harris will now stay in India for this week’s Pune Challenger.
In other singles highlights, it was a promising week for former British No.1 Cam Norrie – who reached the quarter-finals at Delray Beach before losing out to world No.33 Alex Michelsen 7-6(3), 7-5.
Strong performances for British doubles stars
In doubles action, Joshua Paris and partner Daniel Cukierman finished as runners-up in the Tenerife Challenger, losing a narrow final against Alexander Merino and Christoph Negritu 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Emily Appleton was a finalist at the W75 Altenkirchen with Dutch star Isabelle Haverlag but the top seeds were eventually defeated by Marie Benoit and Dalia Jakupovic 7-5, 7-6(6) in the final.
Elsewhere, Jay Clarke and Danish star Johannes Ingildsen made the semi-final at the Delhi Challenger but lost to Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Courtney John Lock 6-2, 7-6(1).
Fery, Jones, Stewart & Mchugh lift ITF titles
There was more British success on the ITF World Tennis Tour last week – including titles at the Lexus GB Pro Series Roehampton.
Playing in his first tournament since September last year, 22-year-old Arthur Fery won his fifth career M25 title without dropping a set.
Fery – who is supported by our Pro Scholarship Programme, presented by Lexus – overcame fellow Brit George Loffhagen in the final 6-4, 6-4 to get his season off to a title-winning start.
In the doubles event, Ben Jones and South African partner Philip Henning came away with the title after defeating top seeds Tom Hands and Harry Wendelken in the final 6-4, 6-3.
Hamish Stewart won his first professional singles trophy at the weekend in the M15 Bucharest. The 25-year-old Briton beat Germany’s Nini Ehrenschneider 7-6(6), 7-6(2) to come away with the title.
Aidan Mchugh had a strong week at the M15 Huamantla – reaching the final of both the singles and doubles events. Despite finishing as runner-up in the singles to Canadian Alvin Nicholas Tudorica, Mchugh and Charles Barry came away with the doubles title thanks to a 7-6(6), 6-2 victory over Mexican team Rafael De Alba Valdes and Alejandro Hayen.
Finally, Naiktha Bians battled her way to the final of the W35 Timaru but missed out on the title to top seed Leonie Kung 6-1, 6-2.
Slade captures title in Bolton
Greg Slade has won the first of two possible British titles at the Bolton Indoor ITF 3 tournament after defeating fellow Brit Oliver Cox 6-3, 6-2 in today’s quad singles final at Bolton Arena.
It had already been a breakthrough week for Cox before today’s final after the 18-year-old secured the biggest match win of his career to beat top seed David Wagner of the USA 6-4, 7-6(4) in the quarter-finals, en route to reaching his first ITF 3 singles final.
However, in the first competitive match between the two players, Slade just had the edge and will now bid to also retain the quad doubles title on Tuesday, when he partners Wagner for that final.
Slade won three titles from four events in Bolton 12 months ago, adding the ITF 3 and following ITF 2 doubles titles to his ITF 3 quad singles title and he is now on course to at least try and equal that feat, with Bolton Indoor ITF 2 tournament starting on Wednesday.
