Andy Murray is a sporting icon and an inspiration to all of us involved in tennis in Britain.
His successes on the court, with his victories at Wimbledon and the US Open, two Olympic gold medals, a record title haul at Queen’s and his many heroic victories in Davis Cup, particularly in leading our team to victory in 2015, have provided our sport with some of its greatest ever moments.
But Andy’s achievements extend beyond his trophy cabinet, leading by example off court and inspiring his fellow players with his humility, his conduct, his charity work and public support for equality across our sport. He is a champion of the people, of girls and boys, women and men, and someone we can all relate to and be inspired by.
Andy is rightly being celebrated by fans around the world and, whatever comes next for him, all of us will continue to take great pride in his achievements. After his heroic efforts at the Australian Open we wish Andy all our best as he considers his options.
We hope to see him on court in Britain again soon, but whether we see him back on court or not, we at the LTA are determined to continue to build on his success and inspiration.
