
Alicia Barnett wins title in Switzerland as Greg Slade adds second doubles trophy of the season

Barnett captures first title in two years
Doubles specialist Alicia Barnett took home the biggest British title of the week at the W75 Chiasso in Switzerland.
Barnett and France’s Elixane Lechemia picked up an impressive comeback victory over Susan Bandecchi and Celine Naef in the semi-finals 1-6, 6-4, 10-4, before moving on to defeat Ines Ibbou and Bibiane Schoofs in the final 6-2, 6-3.
This marked Barnett’s first title in two years and her biggest since winning the W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz with fellow Briton Olivia Nicholls in 2023.
Barnett and Lechemia have formed a strong partnership in recent weeks, having also made the final of the WTA 125
Baker, Jones & Summers claim ITF trophies
Blu Baker won Britain’s only singles title of the week at the M15 Velro Beach in Florida, USA.
The 23-year-old defeated American seventh seed William Grant in the final 7-6(3), 6-4 to lift his second career singles trophy and first since 2022.
Ben Jones was crowned men’s doubles champion a the M25 Sharm El Sheikh last week alongside Kristjan Tamm. The British, Estonian duo beat Erik Arutiunian and Daniil Ostapenkov in the title decider 6-4, 6-3.
Over in Tunisia, Matthew Summers added an eighth ITF doubles title to his name as he and Mert Alkaya knocked out Mwendwa Mbithi and Axel Nefve 6-2, 6-2 in the M15 Monastir final.
Slade crowned champion in Kobe
Greg Slade earned his second ITF 2 Series quad doubles title of 2025 as four British players completed their tour of some of Korea and Japan’s premier wheelchair tennis tournaments at the Kobe Open in Miki.
Slade and Australia’s Benjamin Wenzel made a memorable debut as a partnership with back-to-back straight sets wins, defeating Japanese duo Mitsuteru Moroishi and Shota Kawano 6-3, 6-2 and American-Japanese pairing Andrew Bogdanov and Kei Usami 6-3, 6-4. The second seeds were then awarded a walkover ahead of their scheduled final against Brazilian top seeds Leandro Pena and Ymanitu Silva.
Slade also reached the final of the quad singles before Pena denied the British No.2 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in the title decider.
Lucy’s Shuker’s hopes of winning the 90th women’s doubles title of her career will carry on into next month after her partner Manami Tanaka was forced to withdraw from the semi-finals on medical grounds.
The British No.1 also bowed out in the semi-finals of the women’s singles to second seed Saki Takamuro 6-2, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Ben Bartram and Andrew Penney both registered early straight sets singles wins to reach the men’s singles quarter-finals before losing out to Daniel Rodrigues of Brazil and Casey Ratzlaff of the USA respectively, with second seed Ratzlaff going on to claim the men’s singles title.
Bartram and Penney were also semi-finalists in the men’s doubles, having had their title challenge ended against Chinese duo Dong Shunjiang and Ji Zhenxu 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
