ID checkers
The LTA offers a DBS checking service for people who work with children and adults at risk within tennis. As a result of feedback that it is not always easy for people to have their identity documents checked at a location close to them, we are asking that clubs identify at least one individual within their venue who can act as an ID checker. This person will be responsible for anyone who needs a DBS check to work or volunteer at their venue (e.g. coach, Welfare Officer, etc).
Please click here to see the list of current ID Checkers.
- They will be given an account to access to the LTA’s DBS system
- Applicants from within your venue will see their contact details and contact them to arrange an ID check
- During the ID check they will view the original identity documents of the applicant, and record specific information in the DBS system (e.g. passport number, date of birth)
If the venue does not appoint an ID checker then there may be an ID checker within their local county area who can verify the documents (subject to their availability). However, in the event that there are no ID checkers, the individual will need to use the Post Office for verification. This incurs an additional fee which is levied by the Post Office.
Yes there is a guidance manual and an instructional video will also be available. However, the system is very easy to use!
Staff and volunteers will be able to get their DBS completed much quicker by virtue of having an ID checker within the venue. Venues will also be able to better monitor that people are being DBS checked, as the ID checker will be able to see applications from within their venue.
Please ask them to complete the short form available here.
The individual will be sent training materials and an account will be created for them on the DBS system within a few weeks.
This new process will come into effect at the beginning of 2022.
