US Open 2022: Draw throws up tough openers for Brits
• 3 MINUTE READ
The draw for the 2022 US Open singles events has thrown up several tough first round matches for the Brits – including defending champion Emma Raducanu, who starts her title defence against world No.37 Alize Cornet.
The 19-year-old British star will take on the former world No.11 for the first time in her career, coming off the back of wins over Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka at the Western & Southern Open last week.
British No.2 Harriet Dart has also been dealt a difficult opening clash as she faces 10th seed Daria Kasatkina on Monday. Kasatkina comes into the US Open having won the title in San Jose at the beginning of August but has suffered first round losses in each of her last two tournaments.

On the men’s side, Kyle Edmund continues his journey back from injury with a blockbuster match-up against world No.5 and French Open runner-up Casper Ruud. Edmund got his first win back on tour in Washington a few weeks ago but will need to produce some of his best tennis to get past the Norwegian.

Meanwhile, seventh seed and Wimbledon semi-finalist Cam Norrie will begin his campaign against France’s Benoit Paire. Fresh off a semi-final appearance in Canada, Dan Evans will take on Jiri Vesely in his first match in Flushing Meadows.
