USA’s Emina Bektas and Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic are the new Lexus Surbiton Trophy women’s doubles champions.
Bektas and Krunic beat British duo Sarah Beth Grey and Tara Moore 6-1, 6-1 in the final to claim their first trophy together as a partnership.
The pair finished the week without dropping a set and defeated a British player in each of the four rounds they played.
This is the biggest doubles title of 31-year-old Bektas’s career, while Krunic adds another piece of grass court silverware to a trophy cabinet that also includes the 2022 Rothesay International Eastbourne and the WTA 250 in s’Hertogenbosch.
For Grey and Moore, it’s been a fantastic start to the grass court season, reaching at W100 final in only their second match together.
After missing out on the title, 28-year-old Grey acknowledged how impressive their opponents had been on the day, but feels that she and Moore have clicked as a pairing.
She said: “It was a bit of an anti-climax, I think you could say. But in fairness, they played really well. In doubles, it’s so tough when one team is lighting it up on every shot. We tried to figure it out with different tactics and we can safely say they were just too good, so well done to them.
“It’s been a great week. It’s always so good to play a final, despite the outcome. Me and Tara only played together for the first time last week so every match has been a bonus. I think we gelled really well on the court.”
The duo will continue playing together in the coming weeks, with tournaments in Nottingham and Birmingham coming up.
