For the first time in Birmingham Classic history, the city will play host to the Birmingham Wheelchair Tennis Classic. An exciting new tournament brimming with British talent as the world No.3, Andy Lapthorne, leads the British charge alongside Antony Cotterill and James Shaw.
Who is playing at the Rothesay Classic Birmingham 2022?
Former Roland Garros champion - the one and only Barbora Krejcikova – returns to the Rothesay Classic Birmingham for a second time in her career after having made her debut in 2018. The Czech powerhouse has an outstanding selection of accolades, including a phenomenal 16 doubles titles and one singles. Yet, she is not the only top 20 player to be gracing the courts of the Edgbaston Priory Club.
The world No.14 will be joined by some of the most decorated women in the sport, including former Roland Garros winner, 25-year-old Jelena Ostapenko.
Ostapenko is no stranger to the beauty of the grass court events, having previously advanced to the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2018, and taken home the Eastbourne International trophy in 2021. Now, she has a new challenge in her sights as she prepares to return to Birmingham for a fourth time. Could it be fourth time lucky for the two-time Birmingham Classic quarter-finalist or is she destined for another year of quarter-final finishers?
Top 20 player Simona Halep will also accompany Krejcikova and Ostapenko in the long list of stars announced to play at the Rothesay Classic, along with the likes of two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, and the current world No.16 Camila Giorgi.
