Rothesay Classic Birmingham 2024: Ostapenko headlines star-studded entry list while Wozniacki receives wild card

World No.10 and reigning champion Jelena Ostapenko headlines the list of WTA stars set to compete at the Rothesay Classic Birmingham between 15-23 June, as the entry list is revealed.
Ostapenko picked up her second career title on the grass at last year’s tournament after defeating 2021 Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova 7-6(8), 6-4 in the final – adding the silverware to the Rothesay International Eastbourne trophy she lifted back in 2021.
The Latvian will enter the tournament as the highest ranked player and will be joined by a strong line-up of British and international stars, including 19 of the world’s top 50 WTA stars.
Former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki has been announced as the first player to receive a main draw wild card to the WTA 250 event. The Danish star made her comeback to professional tennis in August last year following her a three year retirment and will be hoping she can reignite the grass court game that led her to two titles on the surface at the Rothesay International.
They'll be joined by last year’s runner-up Krejcikova, world No.27 Elise Mertens, Sorana Cirstea and 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez, who make up the top five seeds alongisde British No.1 Katie Boulter.
Meanwhile, rising tennis sensation Mirra Andreeva is also set to make her Rothesay Classic debut, after the 17-year-old has skyrocketed up the WTA rankings over the last year to reach a career-high ranking of world No.33.
Other standout names include former world No.1 Karolina Pliskova, Ajla Tomljanovic, and up-and-coming French player Clara Burel.
