Roland Garros 2024: Skupski and Krawczyk finish mixed doubles runners-up in Paris

Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk have finished their clay court swing as Roland Garros mixed doubles runners-up after falling short to Laura Siegmund and home favourite Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the final.
Contesting the trophy in front of a packed-out Court Phillippe-Chatrier crowd, the fourth seeds were pipped to the silverware by the German, French pairing 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 41 minutes.
Skupski and Krawczyk were on the hunt for a third Grand Slam crown as a partnership and their first outside of The Championships, Wimbledon which they clinched back in 2021 and 2022. The pair also came close to victory at the Australian Open earlier this year but were beaten in the championship deciding tie-break by Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zielinski.
For both Siegmund and Roger-Vasselin, this marks their maiden Grand Slam mixed doubles title and their first together having joined forces for the first time this week. Siegemund will face Krawczyk once again on Friday in the women’s doubles semi-final.
Speaking on their victory, doubles world No.6 Siegemund said "I want to congratulate you guys (Skupski and Krawczyk), you are one of the best mixed doubles teams so we knew we had to play our very best today. Great job and you will get some more titles that's for sure.
"I didn't want to play mixed here (at Roland Garros) this year because I was in the singles and doubles but Edouard texted me two hours before the deadline. I've always wanted to play with him and it was always somehow not working out but I was like I can't say no now he's finally free and wants to play.
"I think it was a good decision we decided to sign up so thank you so much for playing with me, I've enjoyed some mixed before but this was special."
Meanwhile, Skupski added, "I want to congratulate Laura and Edouard for an amazing week. It must be really special for you to win in France, Edouard so congrats to you and all of your team.
"Thank you to Des yet again for playing with me. We lost in the final of Australia but we'll keep going and we'll play WImbledon together and hopefully we can go one step further."
The second seeded pair had their foot on the accelerator from the off, winning six of the first seven points of the match to find an immediate break on the British, American duo’s serve. Despite being on the backfoot, Skupski and Krawcyzk dug their heels in to try and claw back to level terms but struggled to convert any of their seven break point opportunities in the opener, as their opponents saw out the set unscathed.
Eager to fight back into the contest and level the battle, the two-time Wimbledon mixed doubles titleholders recovered from another early setback to get the second set back on serve. However, after four consecutive breaks it was Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin who swallowed their nerves to eventually seal their first major title together on their second championship point.
