Roland Garros 2024: Wheelchair draws announced for Hewett, Reid, Shuker & Lapthorne
• 1 MINUTE READ
The wheelchair tennis draws at this year's Roland Garros have been annouced with action set to get underway from Tuesday 4 June.
Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid are drawn to play each other in a possible all-British men’s wheelchair singles quarter at the French Open with world No.1 Hewett set to play Belgium’s Joachim Gerard in Tuesday’s first round in Paris, where Reid takes on French No.1 Stephane Houdet in a bid to reach the last eight.
Later in the week Hewett and Reid will play Dutch duo Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers when they open their bid for an unprecedented fifth successive French Open men’s doubles title.
It’s 17 years since British women’s No.1 Lucy Shuker made the women’s singles semi-finals after winning her opening match on her French Open debut. But with the men’s and women’s draws now boasting 16 players, Shuker’s first task this year is to try and find her way past Chinese No.1 Ziying Wang before partnering Colombia’s Angelica Bernal for a doubles quarter-final against top seeds Yui Kamiji of Japan and Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa.
World No.6 Andy Lapthorne will open his bid for the quad singles title in Paris with a quarter-final match against second seed and three-time finalist Sam Schroder of the Netherlands.
Lapthorne will also pair up at a Grand Slam for the first time with Guy Sasson as the British No.1 looks to win the French Open quad doubles title for the third time since 2001. Lapthorne and Sasson will face North American duo Robert Shaw of Canada and David Wagner of the USA in their bid to reach the quad doubles final later this week.
