2024 Olympics tennis preview
The Team GB squad brings a variety of new and experienced players to this year’s competition.
British No.1s Katie Boulter and Jack Draper are set to make their Olympics debuts off the back of title-winning grass court seasons. They will be joined by Cam Norrie and Dan Evans, who are also set to compete for a gold medal for the first time in their careers.
Meanwhile, Andy Murray is back for his fifth Olympic Games – a tournament where he’s had some of his biggest successes in the past. Murray is still the only player to win back-to-back singles gold medals in the history of the event.
The Brits will have to go head-to-head with some of the biggest stars in the world if they want to stand a chance of winning a medal.
In the women’s singles draw, world No.1 and four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek will be a heavy favourite, alongside US Open title-holder Coco Gauff and world No.4 Elena Rybakina.
French Open and Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini will be hoping to continue her strong form this season, alongside Jessica Pegula, Qinwen Zheng and Barbora Krejcikova.
On the men’s side, world No.1 Jannik Sinner and French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz are the ones to watch off the back of stellar 2024 campaigns so far.
The big news coming into the Olympics as well is that Alcaraz will form a dream doubles team with 22-time Grand Slam winner and his hero, Rafael Nadal. A former gold medal winner himself, Nadal will also be a huge threat on the courts where he’s won a record 14 French Open titles.
Novak Djokovic will also be hoping to complete his collection of tennis accolades as he bids to win his first Olympic gold medal.
