2021 Nitto ATP Finals: Salisbury becomes first Brit to reach doubles final
• 1 MINUTE READ
Joe Salisbury became the first Brit to reach the doubles final at the Nitto ATP Finals after beating No.1 seeds Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 with Rajeev Ram.
In a high-class encounter it was the Salisbury and Ram who went down an early break in the first set for 3-1. Despite not losing a point on serve from that point in the opener they couldn’t put pressure on the Pavic and Mektic serves to break back.
The second set was dominated by serve with no break points in the whole set, so was decided on a tie-break. At 3-3 Salisbury and Ram came alive with some incredible tennis to take the next four points to claim it 7-3 and take the match into a deciding match tie-break.
Salisbury and Ram saved their best tennis for the match tie-break racing out to a 9-2 lead before closing it out 10-4 to reach their first Nitto ATP Finals as a team.
