Reigning Rothesay Open Nottingham champion Jacob Fearnley will make his Davis Cup debut for the Lexus GB team in the Qualifier first round against Japan – becoming LTA Colour Holder No.328.
Fearnley received his first Davis Cup call-up following a standout 12 months that has seen him rise from world No.646 to No.77 in the ATP rankings. The British No.3 will make his debut against former world No.4 Kei Nishikori in the second singles match of the tie.
LTA Colour Holders acknowledges, recognises and celebrates players, past and present, who have represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup and Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup, as well as at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Like a ‘cap’ that a player receives playing for their country in either football or rugby, when a player has competed for Great Britain in tennis, they receive a Colour.
Fearnley’s meteoric rise began last summer when he came through qualifying to win his maiden ATP Challenger title on the grass in Nottingham. From there, he went on to claim his first Grand Slam main draw win at Wimbledon, before going on to haul a further three Challenger crowns to end the season ranked inside the top 100.
The 23-year-old has seemingly picked up where he left off this year, with wins over Nick Kyrgios and Arthur Cazaux taking him to the third round at the Australian Open on his tournament debut. There, he managed to push world No.2 Alexander Zverev before eventually bowing out in a three-set defeat.
He is currently at a career-high ranking of world No.77.
