Davis Cup 2024: Billy Harris & Henry Patten join Lexus GB Team in Manchester

• 2 MINUTE READ

British No.3 Billy Harris and Wimbledon doubles champion Henry Patten have joined Leon Smith’s Lexus GB Team for the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage in Manchester from 10-15 September.

Harris comes in to replace Cam Norrie as the 29-year-old continues his recover from injury, while Patten will take the place of Joe Salisbury.

They join a strong line-up with current US Open semi-finalist Jack Draper, last year’s Davis Cup hero Dan Evans and former world No.1 and Grand Slam champion Neal Skupski.

Harris was a hitting partner for the team at last year’s Finals but for both players, this is the first time they’ve been part of squad and they could be set to achieve LTA Colour Holder status should they play across any of the three ties.

Captain and LTA Head of Men's Tennis Smith said: "This is a very tough group with last year's semi-finalists and former champions in Argentina and Canada.

"We believe in our ability however and I'm delighted that Jack, Dan and Neal who played such a key role in helping us qualify last year are back again this year along with both Billy and Henry joining us for the first time off the back of some very strong results they had this summer,”

Great Britain will begin their Davis Cup campaign on Wednesday 11 September up against Finland, before tough ties against Argentina (Friday 13) and Canada (Sunday 15).

Tickets are still available from as little as £5 for under 18s and £10 for adults.

Harris was one of the form players on the ATP Tour throughout the grass court season. The 28-year-old made a name for himself after reaching semi-finals at the Lexus Surbiton Trophy, Rothesay Open Nottingham and Rothesay International Eastbourne, as well as quarter-finals at the cinch Championships.

Having reached a new career-high of world No.104 in August, Harris has since qualified for two ATP events in the American hard court swing and mad third round of qualifiers at the US Open.

It’s been a breakout year for Patten – who won his first Grand Slam title with Finland’s Harri Heliovaara at Wimbledon this summer.

However, it didn’t come from nowhere, the British, Finnish do had been building for several months, winning ATP Tour titles in Marrakech and Lyon as well at Challenger trophies in Madrid and Turin.

It was only in 2022 that Patten and fellow Brit Julian Cash broke the record for the most number of Challenger titles won in a season – 10.

He is currently at a career-high ranking of world No.12.
