Ryan Peniston (GBR) (WC) vs Filip Krajinovic (SRB)

It's been a dream week for Peniston here in Queen's but it's one that's certainly been coming. The British star has enjoyed a great start to the grass court season already with wins over Jack Draper, Adrian Mannarino and Jiri Vesely in Surbiton and Nottingham. 

Soon to rise into the top 150 for the first time next week, Peniston shocked the world earlier this week with a shock win over top seed and French Open runner-up Casper Ruud. He then came from a break down in the final set to win his second tour level match against Francisco Cerundolo. Heading into the quarter-finals, Peniston will feel hugely confident from two top wins and with the British crown behind him, anything could happen...

His opponent is world No.48 Krajinovic who has enjoyed a great start to his grass court season at Queen's so far. He defeated rising star Jenson Brooksby in the opening round 6-4, 6-3 and then went on to take down a tough grass court player in Sam Querrey to reach the quarter-finals.

Emil Ruusuvuori (FIN) vs Marin Cilic (CRO) (7)

Two stars who knocked out Brits in the previous rounds – this could be one of the standout matches of the tournament.

Ruusuvuori is enjoying one of the best stretches in his career at the moment and is set to break into the top 50 for the first time on Monday. The 23-year-old is looking particularly strong on grass at the moment, having defeated fellow quarter-finalist Botic Van De Zandschlup at his home tournament last week in s’Hertgenbosch.

Having battled through qualifying with strong wins against Jay Clarke and former champion Feliciano Lopez, Ruusuvuouri opened his main draw account with a three-set victory over Quentin Halys. In the second round he put in a nearly faultless display to conquer young British star Jack Draper 6-2, 7-6(3).

Cilic is no stranger to the Queen’s Club as a two-time former champion (2018, 2012) and has played like one so far this week. A semi-final run at Roland Garros set Cilic up well for a strong grass court season, which he kicked off with a Centre Court battle with Liam Broady on day one. The seventh seed needed his full arsenal of weapons to defeat Alexnder Bublik in the second round and will need to do the same again when he faces the Fin.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ESP) vs Botic Van De Zandschlup (NED)

When the draws came out over the weekend, few would have predicted this match-up in the quarter-final, but both players have earned their spots with impressive performances this week.

Davidovich Fokina – a former Junior Wimbledon champion – has started to find his feet on the grass this year, reaching his first ATP quarter-final on the surface. The Monte Carlo runner-up beat his fellow countryman Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round before coming through arguably the match of the tournament so far. Against the 2021 Eastbourne champion Alex de Minaur, Fokina played some phenomenal tennis to come through 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Van de Zandschlup has been one of the biggest risers on tour this year – moving up 28 places to world No.29. So far this week he’s defeated Britain’s Paul Jubb in a close three-set battle before moving on to take down former champion Grigor Dimitrov in an impressive 7-6(5), 6-3 win.

Fokina won the only meeting between the two at last year’s French Open – coming through a heated five-set match 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 2-6, 6-4.

Tommy Paul (USA) vs Matteo Berrettini (ITA) (2)

Head-to-head: 1-0

Paul has had an indifferent start to the 2022 season, but has looked a fierce competitor at Queen’s this week. In the opening round he knocked out last year’s semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in one of the upsets of the tournament so far, only to back it up with a stunning 6-1, 6-4 win against the three-time major champion, Stan Wawrinka.

The 2021 cinch Championships title holder is on an incredible run at grass court events – having won 17 of his last 18 matches. The Wimbledon runner-up dazzled against Dan Evans in the first round, but suffered a brief scare up against Denis Kudla in the second round, just coming through 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

In their only meeting, Berrettini was forced to retire having won the first set but down 5-1 in the second in Acapulco earlier this year.
